betwe good morning. charges are expected today in the disturbing death of a man who was pushed right in front of the path of a new york subway train monday and why investigators are questioning a suspect they believe got into an altercation with the victim before pushing him. kirk gregory has the story. >> reporter: it's a horrifying death that has many new york city subway riders in shock. >> the victim here was caught between a train and the station and expired on the scene. >> reporter: police say 58-year-old kesu kahn was shoved in to the path of and oncoming train and was struck and killed. the driver of the train was so distraught, he had to be taken away in a wheelchair. tuesday, police apprehended a suspect for questioning. they believe he's the man seen in a heated argument with the victim on the subway platform before the violent

confrontation. to identify the suspect, detectives poured over security video from area stores and took him into custody near the scene of the crime. meanwhile, haun's family and neighbors are grieving. >> feel bad to myself and to the family, you know. it is a tragedy. >> reporter: his wife was seen being comforted by priest and police detective after learning of her husband's tragic death. kirk gregory, nbc news. just a horrible story. well, elsewhere president obama could name his choices for two top cabinet posts in the next two weeks. one of those jobs may very well go to a republican. senior administration sources say former nebraska senator chuck hagel is on the short list for defense secretary. hagel met with the president this week. he's thought to be one of four finalists on a list that includes massachusetts senator john kerry, kerry is also being mentioned as a possible successor to secretary of state hillary clinton if president

obama doesn't pick u.n. ambassador susan rice. elsewhere, president obama has drawn a hard line on tax increases for the wealthiest of americans. rejecting an offer that republicans claim is as good as it's going to get. tracie potts joins us with the latest on this. good morning. >> reporter: right now it's looking more likely that we could, could, go over that fiscal cliff at the end of the month because right now, negotiations here are at a stand still. president obama talks to the business round table today after telling bloomberg he absolutely won't bunch. the wealthiest americans must pay more. >> we're not going to be able to get a deal without it. >> reporter: he may be in a good position to wait it out. a new poll found more half of americans will blame republicans if we go over the fiscal cliff. >> republicans do not want to touch one hair on the head of one person making over $250,000. that is the rub. >> they've got to come with some

the demonstrators say the rallies are a last warning to president morsi over his seizure of almost unrestricted power. and the adoption of a new constitution. about 100,000 people protested. the opposition forces have not yet decided whether to vote no in a constitutional referendum this month or to call for a boycott. this morning u.n. secretary general ban ki-moon hinted he is not in favor of granting asylum to assad if he flees. with the civil war moving in on the capital of damascus, nato has approved turkey's use of the patriot anti-missile system along its border. the move comes amid growing fears syria will attack touree and/or israel, possibly with chemical weapons. >> an update now for you on the condition of the newly pregnant duchess of cambridge who is being treated for severe morning sickness. according to a statement from st. james palace, kate is, quote, continuing to feel better

and that she and prince william are immensely grateful for the good wishes they have received. but there is still no word yet on when she will be discharged. now your first look at this morning's dish of scrambled politics. word came overnight that long time texas democratic congressman jack brooks has died just days shy of his 90th birthday. he was part of one of the nation's most iconic photographs, that one, that's brooks in the upper right hand corn er of the picture as linde johnson took the oath of office following the assassination of kennedy. brooks had been in the dallas motorcade hours earlier. senator marco rubio was honored last night at the dinner for the kent pound dafoundation featured paul ryan who wasted no time trying out some 2016 jokes. >> marco is joining in an elite group of past recipients for this award.

senator gillibrand and a democrat being pollster. judd is honored at being considered. and that's your morning dish of scrambled politics. now a check of your national weather. we turn to bill karins. he has the weather channel forecast for you. which continues to be a little toasty. >> a little balmy. >> put the sunscreen on. nice. >> you probably needed it in some spots. so many stories of flowers and trees and green glass and lack of snow out there. but things have changed. this map shows you where it's gotten colder and warmer compared to this time yesterday. and you notice that chicago is much colder right now. you've returned back to normal winter conditions, while the eastern seaboard is even warmer this morning than it was yesterday. yesterday it was very warm. we are watching a few showers out there, too, but these temperatures, they're not going to get much warmer than this today. unlike yesterday where the sun came out during the afternoon, today the cold front goes through, there will be clouds,

showers early, and then the sun will come out, it will get breezy and a little windy. and the cold air, it's still chilly in minneapolis, but that's where you you should be this time of year. where it won't see much of a cooldown is anywhere in the southern half of the country because the cold air is just kind of cut off. you notice a lot of clouds over the heartland. the green on the map shows you where the rain is. new england, you've had rain overnight. it's been very light and continues to move through, but driving up on 95, heading through new hampshire into maine, you'll get in some of that rain. boston just some showers for you. new york city, it look like maybe a sprinkle or two. there has been rain overnight in louisiana and mississippi, but that doesn't even look very impressive heading towards mobile. forecast wise, the only areas that will look like winter soon towards minneapolis, you're one of the only spots could i find that has a chance for some snow. so today's forecast, again, still very warm out there. even above average after the cold front. denver at 68. for the eastern seaboard, this upcoming weekend, a little more unsettled, but not chilly.
